Call for abstracts for the Krishnaswamy Subramaniam (KS) National Robotic Surgery Video Awards

The Vattikuti Foundation is pleased to announce the December 2018 KS Robotic Surgery Video Awards.  Finalists will have an opportunity to present their videos at the upcoming XI Robotic Surgeons Council of India (RSC) December 1st & 2nd meetings, to be held at the Taj Vivanta Hari Mahal Hotel, Jodhpur.  This is a nationwide contest, open to all Indian Robotic Surgeons and Vattikuti Fellows.  The theme of the RSC will focus on Evidence Based Medicine.

The Vattikuti Foundation established the KS Robotic Surgery Video Awards to honor the memory of the late Shri Krishnaswami Subramaniam, who played a key role in the establishment of robotic surgery in India.  We invite robotic surgery professionals to send us abstracts of robotic surgery videos they would like to produce for this competition.  Abstracts must be submitted by Friday, September 14, 2018.

Though we are a little late publishing this, we want to share the news about our former Vattikuti Fellow Dr. Santosh Waigankar.  He was a Fellow with Dr. T. B. Yuvaraja at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, completing his term in October, 2016.  He let us know last March that he had received recognition from ERUS 2017 for his poster abstract entitled: “Pentafecta outcomes of robotic partial nephrectomy for T1b renal masses: Single institute-single surgeon retrospective analysis”.  This was awarded 2nd prize at the Junior ERUS-YAU meeting held on 25 September 2017, Bruges, Belgium. He received the prize from Dr. Geert De Naeyer,  OLV Hospital Department of Urology.

Online news service MedicalXpress reports on a Journal of Urology study from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine that has revealed that robotic surgery for kidney tumors caught early and able to be removed via partial nephrectomy "offers significantly better outcomes."
