The US Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning regarding overdoses of over-the-counter medicine Benadryl (diphenhydramine) sometimes leading to death. From the FDA Medwatch bulletin:

"FDA is warning that taking higher than recommended doses of the common over-the-counter (OTC) allergy medicine Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can lead to serious heart problems, seizures, coma, or even death. FDA is aware of news reports of teenagers ending up in emergency rooms or dying after participating in the “Benadryl Challenge” encouraged in videos posted on the social media application TikTok.  Release:

Announcing the Krishnaswamy Subramaniam (KS) National Robotic Surgery Video Awards for the Best Robotic Surgery Videos of 2020

The Vattikuti Foundation is pleased to announce the 2020 KS National Robotic Surgery Video Awards. Three Prizes worth: INR 100,000, 50,000 and 25,000 would be awarded for First, Second and Third Prizes, respectively.  The Awards competition is open to all Indian robotic surgeons.  The subject material of your video shall be on an aspect of robotic surgery.  Any specialty is welcome.  This is a nationwide contest, open to all Indian Robotic Surgeons / Fellows / Residents.


The deadline for all videos will be: Monday October 19, 2020.  (Deadline extended due to COVID-19 pandemic.)

September 12th, Drs. Rooma Sinha & Anshumala Shukla-Kulkarni shared their knowledge about Robotic Surgery for Large Fibroids in a LIVE webinar.  This was the first gynecologic program in the Vattikuti Webinar Series.  Dr. Sinha is the main presenter, Dr. Shukla-Kulkarni is serving as the Moderator.Even though the program has past, the recording is now available on the VFRSI website.

Researchers at the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center report in their monthly newsletter that bad breath (Halitosis) could be caused by some forms of cancer.  According to their article: "If you’ve been told your breath is offensive, it’s time to learn the cause and address it. Soon."
