Incorporation of Computer Assisted Robotic Surgery in Gynecologic Oncology

Dr. Mario M. Leitao is the Fellowship Director, Gynecology Services and the Director of the Minimal Access and Robotic Surgery program for the Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.  This presentation, from the September 2015 meeting of the Robotic Surgeons Council of India begins by telling the audience "This is not a robot."  He describes computer assisted surgery benefits for the surgeon and patient, including the cost-effectiveness and trends in hospital stays.  He even tells laparoscopic surgeons to keep doing laparoscopy, because, according to him- if their MIS rates are greater than 80% successful, they probably don't need the robot.  He discusses the special benefits for morbidly obese patients, and how the introduction of robotic surgery has lowered complications and conversions, while costing less than laporoscopic and open.  Lcture, with PowerPoints, photos and video, 27:21
