OVRSI Partner Surgeon Dr. Alexandre Mottrie was featured in a segment of Topdoktors in a "Day-in-the-life" type of presentation. The program follows him through what appears to be a typical day for him, arriving at the hospital, talking to a patient in a bed, consulting with a couple about surgery and then we see him at work on the da Vinci robot in the operating room on the patient he had been consulting. We then see the same couple, some days later greeting him in a follow-up visit.
The program also has him discussing his role as an educator for prospective robotic surgeons and in the OVRSI pig lab. We see him posing with successful graduates and celebrating in a pub later, where he toasts his students.
His busy schedule continues as he travels to a conference to perform a robotic procedure which is televised to surgeons who study his every move.
It is a very interesting program to view, despite the fact that it was done for Belgian TV and is not in English. (I assume it is in the Flemish language.) For those who know him, it's still a good way to get a glimpse of one of the leaders in robotic surgery. It's 8-minutes well spent.
