Arnold Patrick Advincula

Dr. Arnold P. Advincula has been named vice-chair of women's health in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Medical Center and chief of gynecology at the Sloane Hospital for Women at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.  Dr. Advincula assumed his new role on February 1, 2014.

Dr. Advincula is a leader in minimally invasive surgical techniques and one of the world’s most experienced gynecologic robotic surgeons who has published and taught extensively in the area of minimally invasive surgery as well as developed surgical instruments in use worldwide. He is a board certified obstetrician-gynecologist and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

After graduating with honors from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Dr. Advincula completed both an ob-gyn residency and a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.  Afterwards, he spent 10 years at the University of Michigan where he rose to the rank of Professor and Director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Division and Fellowship as well as Endometriosis Center.

In 2009, Dr. Advincula joined Florida Hospital Celebration Health as Director of the Center for Specialized Gynecology where over the next four years he helped launch the first Women’s Institute in central Florida. Additionally, Dr. Advincula was promoted to Education Institute Director for the Nicholson Center, an advanced medical and surgical simulation training facility.

Currently Dr. Advincula is Vice-President of the AAGL, a 7000-member organization promoting minimally invasive surgery worldwide in addition to serving as member-at-large for the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons. Most recently, Dr. Advincula accepted the position of Vice-Chair of Women’s Health & Chief of Gynecology at the Sloane Hospital for Women, Columbia University Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he brings more than 14 years of clinical expertise, innovation and leadership.
